14 vs 18 vs 24 Inch Misting Fan: Which Size Should You Buy?

How to size by your patio and ceiling

Start with the area you actually sit in, not the whole yard. A small 14 inch fan does a great job over a two or four person table under a low covered roof. An 18 inch fan covers most standard patios where a family gathers and grills.

Ceiling height matters too. Higher covered roofs and open ramadas benefit from the 24 inch fan because it pushes air farther down and out. If your space is big or breezy, size up rather than down so the cooling reaches the seating.

When bigger is the better value

The jump from 14 to 18 inch is only about fifty dollars, so most homeowners go 18 inch for the extra airflow at almost the same price. The 24 inch is a real step up in both size and cost, and it earns its price on large patios, restaurant and bar patios, and anywhere you need to cover more people.

If you are covering a wide area, remember you can run more than one fan. A single 1/4 GPM pump (about $1,535) supplies up to 3 fans, and the 1/2 GPM pump (about $1,899) supplies 4 to 6 fans, which makes multi-fan layouts straightforward.

What every size includes to become a full system

The fan by itself moves air and mists, but the complete DIY cooling system is fan plus pump plus setup kit. The setup kit ($249) includes the high-pressure line, stainless anti-drip nozzles, brass fittings, and mounting hardware.
